Service Description

When working with historic buildings, making the right repair decisions requires more than a contractor’s opinion — it demands expert insight rooted in traditional craftsmanship and material knowledge. Our Technical Reports & Repair Recommendations service is designed to support municipalities, architects, institutions, preservation boards, and private clients tasked with maintaining historic buildings and features. Each project-based engagement includes a detailed assessment of the issue or scope provided, followed by a written consulting report outlining our professional observations, diagnostic impressions, and tailored repair recommendations. We specialize in evaluating historic masonry and plaster assemblies, legacy coatings, traditional finishes, and associated failures that may stem from moisture intrusion, material incompatibility, or poor prior repairs. Our reports provide trusted guidance — not generic solutions — to help ensure that interventions are appropriate, effective, and historically sensitive. This service does not include material testing or destructive investigation unless otherwise arranged. If laboratory testing (such as mortar analysis or plaster composition testing) is needed, we will recommend an appropriate lab and can coordinate testing as an additional service, quoted separately. Clients may use these technical reports to: Support grant applications Define scope for future bid packages Clarify the causes of ongoing damage Guide general contractors unfamiliar with historic materials Present recommendations to historic preservation boards Ensure compatibility of materials for repair or restoration Whether you’re overseeing a single façade or an entire historic campus, we bring clarity, field experience, and preservation ethics to every project.
